Excess Fat is Linked to Autoimmune Disease... and a Lot More! (MUST READ!)

Excess-Fat.jpg

What if your own body's fat cells are major environmental factors that contribute to the onset and progression of autoimmune diseases like RA (rheumatoid arthritis), lupus, IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and thyroid disease such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. What if fat contribues to more fat? What if fat increases the risk of heart disease and increases the risk of death from heart disease? What if fat contributes to brain inflammation and the kind of diabetes now being called Type 3 which has research links to cognitive dementia and memory decline (as well as brain tissue destruction)?

Recently, I read a research paper that made me stop and say WOW!!!!! (Obesity in autoimmune diseases: Not a passive bystander published in the September 2014 edition of Autoimmune Reviews).

Your fat cells contain many, many hormones and inflammatory chemicals called adipokines. Adipose is fat tissue, and adipokines are immune factors that increase inflammation and all diseases and illnesses related to inflammation.

You could be someone with obvious excess fatty tissue. You may be someone without obvious excess fat beneath the skin surface but with fat surrounding your vital organs, which can be easily seen with imaging technologies (sometimes these are the people with hard but rounded bellies). Perhaps you are a "TOFI" - - a Thin on the Outside but Fat on the Inside person. In other words, you look great in clothes but have little muscle tone and you don't like the way you look in your bathing suit.

In this regard, all of you are the same: your own body's fat tissue is increasing the risk of disease, dysfunction, dementia, dysregulation of messengers that control mood and appetite and memory (neurotransmitters), imbalance of estrogen (often too much), testosterone (too little), up and down cortisol (stress response), and so much more.

You can make this about how your look in your clothes, in your bathing suit, at the gym or naked. You can make this about preventing oncoming serious diseases. It does not matter.

What if:

  • Your risks can be assessed so that you know what you are dealing with?

  • Your body fat and muscle percentages can be accurately calculated so you know where you stand now and determine which lifestyles changes promote health for you in a personalized way rather than a one-size-fits-all fad program of the month?

  • Your family history of disease does not have to be yours?

  • You, yourself, are able to find lifestyle and dietary changes that work for your for the duration of your life and for the sake of your life?

The Metabolic Mastery Program at Aligned Integrative Healthcare works because it is designed based upon your own tests, assessments, preferences, and lifestyle demands.
